Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Thanet ChYPMHS team working as a specialty doctor. This is a full time position and you will work alongside a skilled multidisciplinary team including consultant psychiatrists, therapists, nurse prescribers and CAMHS practitioners. The team is based in a dedicated building in Broadstairs. As a specialty doctor in the team you will be able to manage an independent caseload of young people, under consultant supervision comprising of both generic and ADHD cases, with the opportunity to further skills according to experience during the post. Our CYP services run a clear pathway model of care, offering episodic evidence based care for children and young people. In the wider directorate we have county wide Crisis & Home treatment teams, an adolescent inpatient unit based in Staplehurst, a specialist CYP learning disability team and an all age eating disorder service. You will join a cohesive and supportive group of Consultant and SAS doctors, with established monthly peer groups. Your career aspirations and development will be supported, with flexible opportunities to gain experience relevant to CESR, higher training or specialist grade career progression.

Main duties of the job
  • Assessment, formulation and management of young people under the service including psychiatric formulation, prescribing and monitoring of medication and recommendations for appropriate non pharmacological treatments.
  • Attending & contributing to network approach meetings for any young people under your care managed jointly between health, education and social care to share clear formulation and treatment plans from Thanet ChYPMHS.
  • Attendance at weekly MDT meetings & contributing to case discussions and treatment planning.
  • Assessment and management of ADHD and ASD (opportunity for support and skill development if required).
  • Repeat prescribing of medication for young people under the service.
  • Participation in the Pan Kent day time duty rota (9-5 Mon-Fri), supporting the crisis team with psychiatric assessments for young people in crisis across the county, including those subject to the Mental Health Act. S12 approval can be gained during the post if needed.

Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable
  • MRCPsych OR a specialist qualification from an EU country that complies with EU directive 2005/36/EU.

ELIGIBILITY
Essential
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise.
Desirable
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice.
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 6 months of appointment

TRANSPORT
Essential
  • Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative

CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Essential
  • At least 4 years postgraduate experience,
  • including at least 2 years in core psychiatry training programme
  • Good knowledge in specialty
  • Good clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English
Desirable
  • Postgraduate experience in specialty

ACADEMIC SKILLS & LIFELONG LEARNING
Essential
  • Participated in continuous professional development
  • Able to use and appraise clinical evidence
  • Has actively participated in clinical audit.
Desirable
  • Able to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training

  • Participated in research or service evaluation

  • Shows empathy and sensitivity.

  • Able to use electronic records and use IT for email, internet and office software

LEADERSHIP
Essential
  • Reflects on own performance and behaviour, seeking and acting on feedback.
Desirable
  • Shows commitment to quality through knowledge of quality improvement and lean thinking methodology OR able to achieve within one year of appointment
  • Able to deputise for consultant psychiatrist.
  • Knowledge of structure and management of the NHS and the Trust.
