Job summary
We are looking for a qualified Audiologist to join our small, friendly non AQP Adult Hearing Service covering the Princess Royal University and Beckenham Beacon Hospitals within King's NHS Trust. The Audiology department is a non AQP service which provides audiological support to ENT. This includes performing hearing assessments for ENT clinics, fitting and maintaining NHS hearing aids for adult patients, participating in routine duties within a team working within professional boundaries to provide excellent patient centred care. The main site is the Princess Royal University hospital, there will be ENT clinics at the Beckenham beacon which the post holder will be expected to cover when necessary. We provide the opportunity to fit the latest range of Signia BTE NHS hearing aids and CROS/ BiCROS hearing aids. The chance to be part of a small, friendly department that excels at providing excellent patient care. The post holder will require;

Main duties of the job
  • Full diagnostic hearing assessments
  • Assessment of hearing needs
  • Fitting and programming of hearing aids
  • Follow up and booked hearing aid repair appointment
  • Accurate and timely record keeping
  • Administrative duties

The job description is not intended to be exhaustive and it is likely that duties may be altered from time to time in the light of changing circumstances and after consultation with the post holder. The post holder might be required to work across the Trust at any time throughout the duration of his/her contract, which may entail travel and working at different hospitals.

Job responsibilities
  • Provide routine audiological support to ENT colleagues for adults and children.
  • To perform routine audiological assessments and rehabilitation of complex adults, following BSA and national recommended protocols and guidelines.
  • Select and fit appropriate NHS BTE hearing aids to adults with hearing loss ranging from mild to profound.
  • Formulate patient centred management plan tailored to patients needs.
  • To take ear impressions of patients when clinically necessary and choose appropriate moulds to be ordered for patients needs.
  • To provide counselling, rehabilitative support, advice for patients and signpost to additional resources when needed.
  • To reassess hearing for existing hearing aid users and make shared informed decisions with patients to modify and upgrade hearing aids.
  • To support team members in other duties as required by the service to ensure effective running of the department
  • To undertake clinical and administrative tasks as required by the team, such as utilising and maintaining stock
  • To participate in audits as required
  • To refer patients to other service providers which can facilitate advanced diagnostics and rehabilitation when clinically indicated. For example for hearing/tinnitus therapy, vestibular assessment/rehabilitations, consideration for cochlear /bone/middle ear implant.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential
  • BSc,MSc in Audiology or equivalent

Desirable
  • Evidence of CPD

Knowledge and experience
Essential
  • Competent in : Diagnostic Audiology for adults and children over 5, fitting of digital Hearing Aids to adults and rehabilitation
  • Competent to perform ear canal impression taking
  • Able to communicate effectively with : patients with severe to profound hearing loss,carers,collegues

Desirable
  • Experience with Auditbase
  • Experience performing otoacoustic emission testing

Skills and competencies
Essential
  • Able to work effectively as part of a small team and autonomously
  • Excellant written skills - clients medical records, clinical reports and email communication with colleagues
