Job summary
The Clinical Research Fellow will be a part of the rheumatology research team, working alongside King's College London colleagues in the Centre for Rheumatic Disease Clinical Trials Group. The team facilitates the delivery of a range of commercial, non-commercial, and academic studies that are undertaken by clinicians within the Rheumatology Department. The focus of the clinical research is on rheumatic disease and includes the evaluation of current treatments and practices, as well as the investigation of the efficacy and effectiveness of new treatments. The post holder will be responsible for clinical oversight with a particular focus on clinical care and patient safety, supported by the lead investigators and more senior clinical research fellow colleagues.

Main duties of the job

• Act as sub-investigator as part of a multidisciplinary team for commercial and non-commercial clinical research studies, delivering those studies safely, on time and to target, complying with the regulatory requirements.
• Maintain accurate records (paper and electronic) as required by regulatory authorities, Sponsors and local policies.
• Work with the Kings College London departmental Clinical Studies Manager and Senior Trials coordinator, and trust employed Clinical Research support staff to ensure that the team is delivering on both the commercial and non-commercial study portfolio targets.

About us
The Clinical Research Fellow will report on a day-to-day basis to Professor James Galloway, and work with the Senior Trials Coordinator and Clinical Studies Manager to identify priority trial activity to be delivered. Line management support will also be provided by the Clinical Research Facility Manager.

The postholder will work closely with other Clinical Research Fellows in the department, as well as Clinical Research Practitioners and Research Nurses.

Job responsibilities

• Engage as appropriate with all aspects of the development and conduct of research studies, including advising on planned clinical research activity and recruiting and following up participants on active trials. The postholder will ensure all study activity is conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice.
• Provide medical cover for commercial and non-commercial clinical research studies, delivering those studies safely, on time and to target, complying with the regulatory requirements.

Education and Qualifications
Essential

• MBBS or equivalent Medical Degree
• Full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council
• MRCP

Desirable

• Good Clinical Practice training

Knowledge and Experience
Essential

• Core training
• Commitment to research, demonstrated by previous publications and presentation at conferences
• Previous experience within the NHS
• Previous experience working in rheumatology
• Previous clinical trial experience

Desirable

• Previous clinical trial experience in rheumatic disease

Skills and Competencies
Essential

• Excellent IT skills in the following areas: email; MS Word, Excel, databases
• Interest in rheumatology research

Desirable

• Knowledge of electronic data capture systems e.g., Medidata and MACRO
