Job summary
As Consultant you will be joining a dynamic team of Neuroradiologists at a regional tertiary neurosciences centre providing the full range of subspecialty diagnostic neuroradiology work, including trauma and stroke. You will be supporting the provision of first class clinical care, provide effective leadership to all staff in the Care Group, support teaching and research across the full spectrum of diagnostic neuroradiology. You will take part in multidisciplinary work across Neurosciences and provide neuroradiology support across medical specialties.

Main duties of the job
The diagnostic work covers all ED neuro (brain and cervical spine) CTs, all in-patient neuro and most of the neurosurgical and neurological out-patients, together with some spine MRIs that are performed within the General Radiology department. There are additional close links with Paediatric Neurologists, Stroke Physicians, Oncologists, Endocrinologists, Ophthalmic, ENT and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Consultant Obstetricians and fetal medicine sub-specialists and Neuropsychiatrists. Approximately 26 Multidisciplinary / Clinico-Neuroradiology meetings take place on site on a regular basis, covering a wide range of sub-specialities. The department has well-established Clinico-Radiological interaction, multidisciplinary meetings and a significant research output.

Job responsibilities
The Trust is recognised internationally for its work in liver disease and transplantation, neurosciences, cardiac, haemato-oncology, fetal medicine, stroke, major trauma, and Emergency Department.

Person Specification
Training and Experience
Essential
  • Wide experience in all aspects of radiology culminating in award of Certificate of Completion of Training by GMC, or award of certificate of eligibility for Specialty Registration (CESR) by GMC.
  • Formal subspecialty interest in neuroradiology

Desirable
  • experience/training in pediatric neuroimaging
  • Experience/training in fetal brain imaging
  • Experience/training in skull base

Administration
Essential
  • Experience in day-to-day organisation of Radiology services in a busy Teaching Hospital
  • Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills
  • Familiar with current structure of UK National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes

Management and Leadership
Essential
  • Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams

Desirable
  • Management course and/or qualification

Audit and Quality Improvement
Essential
  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit and quality improvement projects.
  • Must have undertaken and completed audit projects
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to lead change

Desirable
  • Audit Publications

Qualifications
Essential
  • Registerable medical qualification MBBS/MD
  • Full FRCR

Desirable
  • Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD)

Registration

  • Full Registration with GMC

Research and Publications
Essential
  • Experience of consucting or supporting clinical research

Desirable
  • Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of neuroradiology
  • Publications of relevant review articles or case reports

Teaching
Essential
  • Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and exam preparation

Desirable
  • Teaching skills course/qualification
