Job summary
For the purposes of this job description this fellowship is intended to allow an experienced neurophysiology trainee to obtain experience, both academically and clinically, in intra-operative monitoring (IOM). This post will provide experience sufficient to allow a successful fellow to offer himself/herself for appointment to a consultant position. To achieve this the trainee will be given experience in the following broad areas.

The postholder will work closely with the lead Consultant for intra-operative monitoring service, working closely with the lead to ensure there is a high quality IOM service provided to the neurosurgery team at King's College Hospital.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the delivery of a high-quality intraoperative monitoring (IOM) service within Neurosurgery at King's College Hospital. This includes providing real-time neurophysiological monitoring during complex neurosurgical procedures to minimise neurological risk, supporting theatre activity, and contributing to safe and effective patient care across adult and paediatric services.

Job responsibilities
  • Deliver intraoperative monitoring during complex neurosurgical procedures (including spine, skull base, neuro-oncology, paediatric and CSF cases)
  • Work closely with the Lead Consultant to maintain and develop a high-quality IOM service
  • Support theatre teams to optimise patient safety and surgical outcomes
  • Contribute to service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Participate in teaching, training, and multidisciplinary team working
  • Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with clinical governance standards

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential
  • Registerable medical qualification.
  • FRCP (or equivalent) - Neurophysiology
  • Full registration with GMC/GDC with License to Practice

Desirable
  • Other higher degree/qualifications

Previous experience

Essential
  • At least close to completion of CCT
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
