Job summaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a staff nurse at the Caldecot Centre, Kings College Hospital, Denmark Hill site. The role involves undertaking nurse-led HIV consultation with non-complex, stable patients in a supported environment. The role will also include screening and treatment of sexually transmitted infections. There will be opportunities to develop your leadership skills by managing and coordinating the department in the absence of more senior staff.
To fulfil this role, you must have a genuine interest in HIV and sexual health. You will need to have some knowledge and understanding of sexual health and HIV. You must have good communication skills. You will be well organized, resilient, and able to meet the challenges and demands of a busy and diverse clinical service.
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate high standards in clinical care and have the ability to improve quality and patient satisfaction. This is a great opportunity to develop your knowledge of HIV and sexual health in a specialist area.
Main duties of the job- To undertake nurse led HIV consultations with non-complex stable patients in a supported environment.
- To take responsibility for managing and co-ordinating the department in the absence of more senior staff.
- To participate in the teaching and supervision of junior staff and student nurses as required.
- To ensure that nursing practice is safe and the quality of care is of a high standard.
- To provide appropriate information, advice, health education and support to meet the needs of service users through skilled interpersonal interaction .
- Performing accurate microscopy of genital slides
- Performing and ordering other diagnostic tests.
- Male and female genital examination.
- Venepuncture.
- Cryotherapy
- Sexual history taking
- Running Nurse-led clinics in rotation with other Nursing staff.
