Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 (or experienced band 5) Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our Richmond Community Neuro Rehabilitation service (CNRT) which includes the Stroke Early Supported Discharge (ESD) team. The post is a part-time secondment: 2 days (15 hours) a week for an initial 18 months, with the possibility to extend.

You will join a team of experienced Occupational Therapists providing a comprehensive multi-disciplinary rehabilitation programme to neurologically impaired adults in the community.

Appointments are mainly home visits with some out-patient clinics, therefore a car owner/driver is recommended.

Main duties of the job

• To perform skilled OT assessment of patients including complex physical and psychological conditions.
• To provide evidence-based treatment programmes, guided by patient orientated goal setting, whilst liaising with the multidisciplinary team.
• To deliver and progress these individualised treatment programmes and provide advice to family and carers.
• To provide a high standard OT service, working autonomously with supervision and support, and as part of the multidisciplinary team.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

• Degree/ diploma in OT and HCPC registered
• Membership of RCOT

Knowledge and Experience
Essential

• Post-graduate experience in physical rehabilitation, management of neurological conditions, care of the elderly, falls, orthopaedics, etc
• Experience of core skills in physical rehabilitation including therapeutic handling, use of outcome measures, goal setting
• Knowledge and experience of OT assessments and interventions
• Experience working as part of an OT team and/or multi-disciplinary team
• Experience in the use of evidence-based practice in the clinical setting

Desirable

• Experience of supervising therapy assistants or junior staff

Skills and Abilities
Essential

• Able to work collaboratively with the MDT
• To work as an autonomous practitioner
• Able to present information - written and orally - in a clear, logical manner
• Able to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues of all ages and abilities

Desirable

• Able to supervise and support junior staff, non-qualified staff and students.

Personal Attributes
Essential

• Able to work as a team member, being flexible, reliable and committed, confident and self-motivated
