Description

Job summary
Working within a supportive and education-focussed environment and within the Elderly Care service as detailed within the attached specialty brochure, the post-holder will provide registrar-level experience in a teaching hospital with all the main medical sub-specialities.

This role would particularly suit doctors who have completed CMT and individuals with equivalent experience who are looking to progress to speciality training and for those looking to go down the non-consultant career grade or SAS route.

Main duties of the job
You will be working at registrar level in Elderly medicine at Chorley Hospital.

You will work in an Elderly Care department with 4 Consultant Geriatricians. Your team consists of 1 Consultant and 2 Junior Clinical Fellows, and you will be responsible to the Consultant Geriatricians, predominantly working on Rookwood B ward at Chorley Hospital.

You will lead ward rounds, typically consisting of 16 patients, and will also provide support to consultant led ward rounds. You will also be involved in the general medicine on-call rota (as the other middle grades and consultants are involved). The on-call is based on the medical admissions unit (MAU) at Chorley Hospital and a period of shadowing can be provided before taking up the on-call in full.

Within the role, there will also be opportunities to perform procedures, develop communication skills (including obtaining collateral histories and advance care planning) and participate in multidisciplinary team working (including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy).

You can expect training in both general medicine and comprehensive geriatric assessment. It is expected that you will participate in the weekly departmental meeting and medical grand round. In addition, there is a monthly meeting to discuss clinical governance issues.
