Description

Consultant Psychiatrist Male Inpatient
Closing date: 01 September 2026

Job Summary
The successful applicant will provide additional medical and clinical leadership to the acute inpatient ward in an established acute care pathway team based on Ward 3 Becklin Centre which is a 22 bedded male unit. Ward 3 along with Ward 4 Becklin and Ward 4 Newsam make up the Male Acute Inpatient Service and the Specialist, alongside the Consultant Psychiatrist is expected to be a key member of that leadership team which ensures high quality standards of care are established, monitored and further developed, within a culture of learning and improvement, which enables all staff to work effectively alongside men with acute mental health problems to best meet their needs.

Following a recent workload review, the acute wards have moved to a model where there are two Approved Clinicians per ward - a fulltime Consultant Psychiatrist and either a MPAC, a less than fulltime Consultant or a Specialist Psychiatrist.

Main Duties of the Job
We recruit people based on their values and qualifications (where required) and believe that their lived experience is an advantage, this means that together we are as diverse as the communities we care for. Simply put, when we employ caring people who act with integrity and have the right skills, we can give those with mental health challenges, learning disabilities and neurodiversity high-quality care and support to live fulfilling lives, and make our staff feel purposeful, happy and valued.

All our information is available in accessible formats. Please contact the Recruitment team recruitment.lypft@nhs.net

Attached to this advert is our candidates guide to values-based recruitment and supporting guidance on how to make a successful application.
