Job Summary
We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to work within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT) Adult Palliative Care Team.

Our dynamic multidisciplinary team provides specialist palliative care for adults across all LTHT hospitals. In this role, you will work closely with referring teams to support patients and their families with highly complex palliative care needs, including those approaching the end of life.

You will be responsible for managing a caseload of patients, providing expert clinical advice alongside compassionate emotional and psychological support. The role also includes education, project work and opportunities to contribute to service improvement. We are looking for a confident clinician with experience of caring for patients and families with complex needs, life-limiting illnesses and those at the very end of life. The postholder will be expected to work weekends and bank holidays.

Why you should join our Team
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is a large organisation with more than 2000 in-patient beds on over 70 different ward areas. The team supports patients at Leeds General Infirmary, St James University Hospital and Chapel Allerton Hospital.

This means you will be exposed to a variety of clinical specialities and teams.

You will become an integral member of our experienced Adult Palliative Care Team, working alongside doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and a pharmacist to deliver high-quality, person-centred care for patients with complex needs.

You will be joining a well-established and highly respected team, with strong support to help you succeed in the role. Our staff survey feedback is consistently positive, reflecting our commitment to staff wellbeing, professional development and a supportive working environment. We offer opportunities to lead and contribute to project work, service development and education, and we encourage every team member to bring forward ideas that enhance patient care.

What you will bring to the role
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic team.

You should have
  • excellent communication skills
  • excellent evidence-based clinical knowledge and skills
  • the ability to apply clinical knowledge and make clinical judgements to support clinically complex Specialist Palliative Care patients
  • the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care and treatments using specialist clinical knowledge and skills
  • the ability to demonstrate compassion and empathy
  • the ability to work collaboratively with all clinicians in this challenging but rewarding role
  • the ability to work autonomously and as a team player
  • Education delivery, project work and role modelling of leadership behaviours commensurate with a Band 6 CNS are expected aspects of the role
