Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated, compassionate and enthusiastic individual to join the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Team. In this role, you will contribute to the prevention and control of communicable infections across Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, supporting clinical teams to reduce healthcare-associated infections and promote the safety of patients, staff and visitors.

The post is primarily based at St James's University Hospital; however, the successful candidate will provide support and services across all Leeds Teaching Hospitals sites as required.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, highly motivated Nurse, Allied Health Professional or Midwife to join the award-winning Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The IPC Team is part of the Chief Nurse Clinical Service Unit and works closely with laboratory colleagues, including Microbiology, Virology, Infectious Diseases and Community IPC teams.

We are an inclusive, forward-thinking team committed to supporting high standards of patient safety across the Trust. Working collaboratively with colleagues from a wide range of clinical and non-clinical services, we promote effective infection prevention and control practices through education, positive role modelling, expert advice and risk assessment, enabling informed decision-making and the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.

Although the service operates primarily Monday to Friday, the postholder will be required to participate in a rotational weekend service during the designated winter period and provide Bank Holiday cover throughout the year.

Key Requirements

• Significant post-registration clinical experience, with experience working at Band 5 level or above.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, influence and empower others.
• A passion for improving patient safety and delivering high-quality care.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively when addressing complex challenges.
• A commitment to supporting and delivering IPC strategies aimed at reducing healthcare-associated infections.
• Resilience and emotional intelligence, with the ability to support staff, patients and carers in challenging or distressing situations.
• Experience of leading or supporting service improvement and change management initiatives.
• The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• A proactive and adaptable approach to managing competing priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
