Applications are invited for a consultant post within the Regional Neuroscience Centre. The post is designed for a Consultant Physician with an interest in stroke medicine. Applications from candidates with a background in acute internal medicine(AIM)/general internal medicine(GIM) and Neurology and Geriatrics will be considered. This post is to compliment the growing and dynamic Stroke and Neurology Service. The post is for 10 Programmed Activities, however part time applications or job shares will be considered.
Main duties of the jobYou will provide consultant supervision and leadership to the Hyperacute Stroke Unit (HASU) and Acute Stroke Units at the Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) and rehabilitation unit at chapel Allerton hospital (C6). You will work flexibly in a team assessing and treating all ages of patients with TIA and acute stroke. The post holder will work cooperatively with the team of staff delivering hyperacute treatments, including thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy, to ensure effective joint working and highest quality care. Consultants in Stroke Medicine contribute to education and training of staff from a variety of disciplines caring for stroke patients.
you will be an active participant in all Clinical Governance, Service Improvement and Patient Safety work in stroke medicine, and provide patients and carers with information and support. You will work collaboratively with the stroke multi-disciplinary team to improve patient flow and facilitate decision making for our stroke inpatients. You will ensure high quality and safe care of stroke patients resulting in excellent clinical outcomes.

Job descriptionWhy you should join our TeamThe Stroke Medicine service at LTHT is the Comprehensive Stroke Centre for West Yorkshire, providing Mechanical Thrombectomy (MT), thrombolysis, Hyper Acute, Acute and rehab-level stroke care. This is an exciting time for the service, as we are rolling out our 24/7 MT services in conjunction with Interventional Radiology.
What you will bring to the role- To provide consultant supervision and leadership to the Hyperacute Stroke Unit (HASU) and Acute Stroke Units at the Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) and rehabilitation unit at chapel Allerton hospital (c6).
- To work flexibly in a team assessing and treating all ages of patients with TIA and acute stroke.
- To work cooperatively with the team of staff delivering hyperacute treatments, including thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy, to ensure effective joint working and highest quality care.
- To support the IT infrastructure which underpins the stroke service and facilitate improved clinical governance and SSNAP data collection
- To utilise all the resources available in delivering an effective and efficient service including the Community Stroke Team and other community services.
- To contribute to education and training of staff from a variety of disciplines caring for stroke patients.
- To be an active participant in all Clinical Governance, Service Improvement and Patient Safety work in stroke medicine.
- To provide patients and carers with information and support.
- To work collaboratively with the stroke multi-disciplinary team to improve patient flow and facilitate decision making for our stroke inpatients.
- To ensure high quality and safe care of stroke patients resulting in excellent clinical outcomes.
- To work co-operatively and effectively as part of the wider neurosciences and Speciality internal medicine teams, being held to account for clinical, service development and training outcomes.
- To work closely with the colleagues in related clinical areas, in particular the emergency department, other medical and acute surgical specialties and with colleagues in primary care and those at the interface.
