Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated HCPC registered Clinical Scientist to provide professional and clinical leadership across our Functional Electrical stimulation, Gait Analysis, Specialist Rehabilitation Engineering and Clinical Measurement Services. This is a senior role within Medical Physics and Engineering, combining strategic service leadership with hands-on clinical practice and technical expertise.

This is an opportunity to shape rehabilitation engineering services, influence clinical practice and innovation, and lead a skilled multidisciplinary workforce. You will combine strategic responsibility with clinical work that supports people with complex mobility and rehabilitation needs.

Why you should join our Team
You will lead the delivery, quality and development of clinical technical services, while maintaining a substantial personal caseload as a lead Clinical Scientist. Working autonomously and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, you will ensure safe, effective and patient-centred services that meet national guidance, commissioning requirements and quality standards.
  • Lead Functional Electrical Stimulation, Gait Analysis and Rehabilitation Engineering services covering wheelchairs, orthotics and prosthetics and Clinical Measurement.
  • Assess patients, undertake and interpret specialist clinical measurements, and recommend appropriate interventions and equipment.
  • Provide expert advice on assistive technology, equipment modification, risk management and medical device safety.
  • Monitor service demand, waiting lists, resources and performance, and plan activity to meet clinical priorities.
  • Develop policies, procedures and services in line with national standards and the departmental ISO 9001 quality management system.
  • Manage, support and develop healthcare science staff, trainees and apprentices, including workload allocation, appraisal and competency.
  • Contribute to research, innovation, education and professional activity at local and national level.

What you will bring to the role
You will bring strong clinical, technical and leadership experience in rehabilitation or clinical engineering, together with sound judgement, excellent communication skills and a commitment to high-quality patient care. You must hold a technology-based degree or equivalent, an MSc in a Clinical Engineering-related subject, and State Registration as a Clinical Scientist.

Experience of patient assessment, assistive technology service delivery, wheelchairs and seating, gait analysis and Functional Electrical Stimulation is essential. You will also need the ability to lead staff, work effectively with patients and families, use specialist software and equipment, and travel to clinics and patient homes across sites.
