Job SummaryThe Radiological Physics and Radiation Protection Service forms part of the Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering Department at LTHT. The service provides specialist scientific, technical and radiation protection support in the diagnostic imaging field. This includes the delivery of a comprehensive quality assurance programme and the monitoring of patient, staff and environmental radiation doses. Through this work, we help to ensure regulatory compliance for the Trust and external customers.
We are seeking a registered clinical technologist to join our growing team of clinical scientists and clinical technologists. The successful candidate will work closely and effectively with technical, scientific and clinical colleagues across a wide range of imaging modalities to ensure the delivery of a high-quality service. The post is based within our newly refurbished accommodation at Leeds General Infirmary, with regular travel between Trust sites and to our customer locations across West and North Yorkshire. We offer flexible working arrangements, including opportunities for home working.
Although we are seeking a registered clinical technologist, applications are also welcomed from suitably qualified candidates who have not yet achieved registration or are at an earlier stage in their professional development. In this case, appointment would be made at a lower grade, with support and development opportunities provided to achieve registration and progress within the role.
Why you should join our TeamThe Radiological Physics and Radiation Protection Service is a small, friendly and supportive team within the Oncology CSU. We are expanding to support the continued growth and development of our services, creating exciting opportunities for new team members to contribute and develop alongside us.
Our work is varied, with a large and diverse equipment base covering all types of X-ray equipment, offering opportunities to gain broad experience across diagnostic imaging. We are committed to supporting career development and work with all members of the team to help them identify the best route for them to thrive. Technologists are actively supported to join the Register of Clinical Technologists through the equivalence route.
What you will bring to the roleThe main duties of this role are performing routine and unplanned quality assurance checks on x-ray equipment across our own Trust and for our external customers. This includes travel to sites across the North and West Yorkshire region. Once enough experience has been gained the post holder is expected to assist with training new staff and other trainees.
The post holder will also assist with technical support for the patient dose management software and will be involved with the process of decommissioning and disposing of medical equipment.
Other regular duties include investigations relating to staff radiation doses, logging and triaging incoming work, function testing of test equipment and support for the radiographer QA programme.
We operate under a Quality Management System (QMS) and all staff contribute towards the creation and maintenance of QMS documents such as work instructions and templates for recording data.
