Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic nurse with respiratory/cancer experience to join the lung cancer team as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.

The "Liverpool Lung Cancer Unit" is a well established partnership within the University Hospital Liverpool Group. The clinical team work across Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Diagnostic Treatment Centre and the Royal Liverpool Hospital sites.

Providing and advocating a high standard of diagnostic and treatment services to its local population. This is reflected in the excellent outcomes achieved and the high level of patient satisfaction reported.

The Lung Cancer CNS role is pivotal in facilitating an individualised diagnostic pathway for each of their patients and providing the specialist care and support they require.

With a drive for innovation, as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be involved in developing the service in order to support the delivery of the National Optimal Lung Cancer Pathway and local Cancer nursing strategy.

Main duties of the job
Main duties:
  • Act as a key worker; delivering evidence based, personalised care through holistic assessment, care planning and evaluation of care for patients with suspected and diagnosed lung cancer, through the diagnostic pathway, through to treatment. This might be via a virtual, clinic or inpatient setting.
  • To identify and support patients who are vulnerable. Enabling them to have a smooth journey through the lung cancer pathway.
  • To work at an enhanced level to plan and provide clinical care and psychological support to patients with a suspected/known cancer diagnosis who have complex needs.
  • To provide specialised advice to patients and their carers in relation to a cancer diagnosis and its treatment.
  • To manage a complex caseload independently, utilising resources efficiently and promoting timely interventions for patients.
  • To liaise effectively between the multidisciplinary team across healthcare providers to optimise patients outcomes.
  • To be a expert resource for peers across the healthcare organisations with regard to the lung cancer specialism.
  • Maintain high quality records to underpin audit activity and proactively engage in service development.
