Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Pharmacy Team based at Aintree Hospital. The post-holder will play a key role in the management of patients with a range of rheumatological conditions, including active involvement in prescribing medicines for this patient group. The role will also support the supervision and development of pharmacists and technicians within the rheumatology service, ensuring the provision of a high-quality, safe and effective clinical pharmacy service.

We are seeking a dynamic, motivated and forward-thinking clinical pharmacist, ideally with demonstrable experience in rheumatology or immuno-modulating agents, who will act as an integral member of the rheumatology multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will undertake specialist clinics, contribute to and attend MDT meetings, and work closely with consultants, specialist nurses and surgeons to optimise medicines use and support complex clinical decision-making.

The postholder will be supported by the Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Rheumatology, and would be an experienced pharmacist with ability to provide clinical leadership and take responsibility for the delivery of a proactive, patient-centred specialist pharmacy service across rheumatology. The role also offers opportunities to work collaboratively with teams across the organisation, contributing to service development and cross-site working.

Main duties of the job
  • Assist the Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Rheumatology in the development of pharmacy services and medicines management within the Rheumatology Directorate.
  • To provide a safe and effective advanced clinical pharmacy service to the Rheumatology Directorate.
  • Assist the Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Rheumatology in providing clinical training and supervision, relevant to Rheumatology for other departmental staff.
  • Provide non-medical prescribing services to the Rheumatology Directorate.

Job responsibilities

Qualifications
Essential
  • Vocational master's degree in pharmacy
  • Membership of The General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experiential learning.
  • Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP)

Desirable
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society or equivalent professional body

Experience
Essential
  • Significant hospital experience
  • Experience of medicines optimisation, governance, formulary compliance or antimicrobial stewardship within a hospital setting
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuing professional development / education

Desirable
  • Experience as a NMP in a Hospital Setting

Knowledge
Essential
  • Advanced clinical knowledge and experience relevant to hospital pharmacy practice, with the ability to develop and apply specialist knowledge within the designated specialty/service area
  • Knowledge of the law relating to Pharmacy and medicines
