Job summary
A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experience dietitian to join the North Mersey Stroke service. We invite applications from band 5 or 6 dietitians with experience of working in an acute inpatient setting and an interest in stroke.

The North Mersey stroke service consists of centralised acute services on the Aintree site including Stroke Emergency Assessment centre (SEAC), Hyperacute (HASU) and inpatient rehab based on the Aintree site where this post will be based. There is also an an inpatient rehab unit and the stroke early supported discharge teams based at Broadgreen hospital who you will develop stroke working relationships with.

You will be supervised by a band 7 dietitian and will maintain stroke professional links with the Aintree dietitic team for peer support and inservice training. Working in the stroke service you will be part of a well established and supportive MDT consisting of medics, nursing staff and other AHP colleagues.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate an interest in stroke care, excellent communication skills, a practical and forward thinking approach to service development and evaluation and the ability to work as part of a large team.

This post requires active participation in innovation and service improvement initiatives and audit. You will be supported with your personal development goals through annual appraisal and will have regular supervision.

You will also be involved with supervision of dietitic students and graduate dietitians as part of your role so strong leadership and communication skills are essential. You will work with the wider team to review performance against national standards and identify areas for improvement, contribute to local team meetings including safety and governance and contribute to training and education programs.

Job responsibilities
  • To contribute to the delivery of the dietitic service
  • To assess and treat a defined caseload of patients and maintain accurate records
  • To work collaboratively and co-operatively with other clinicians to meet the care needs of a defined inpatient caseload
  • Contribute to development of policies and procedures local to your clinical area
  • Participate in data collection, service improvement and audit
  • Participate in the supervision and support of junior staff and students
  • participate in the education, training and development of MDT and AHP staff

Person Specification

Qualifications
Essential
  • BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics or post graduate Diploma.
  • Current registration with HPC.
  • Membership of BDA or equivalent professional indemnity.

Desirable
  • Introductory level Clinical Supervisory Skills Training.

Experience
Essential
  • Broad clinical experience in at least 3 clinical areas, including medical and surgical patients.
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working.
  • Experience and evidence of continuing professional development.

Desirable
  • Experience of training student dietitians.
  • Experience of conducting audit

Knowledge
Essential
  • While able to work independently, ability to recognise own limitations and access advice and information appropriately.

Skills
Essential
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey information.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Time management - able to prioritise work, respond appropriately to demands and keep to time in out patient setting.

Desirable
  • I.T. Skills - power-point, keyboard and e mail.
