An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Biomedical Scientist to join a dynamic workforce in Haematology and Transfusion. This service is provided across four separate hospital sites.

The laboratory based at the CSSB facility at Royal Liverpool supports the Clatterbridge Cancer Care Hospital Liverpool and regional specialists' services such as Haemophilia centre and the Haemoglobinopathy and Antenatal Screening Service.
The laboratory based at Aintree University Hospital supports the regions Trauma Centre. This laboratory also serves the Walton Neurological Centre.
Broadgreen Hospital, which is co-located with Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, is home to several elective surgical, diagnostic and treatment services, together with specialist rehabilitation.
The Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust is the main hospital delivering the highest standards of care for women, babies, and families.
The post holder will be expected to participate in the out of hours shift pattern supporting the provision of a 24-hour analytical service.
Main duties of the jobUndertake training to support the operational functionality of the laboratory areas including calibrating, maintaining and operating complex analytical equipment and regularly reviewing internal quality control and external quality assurance data trends.
Your duties will include the validation of analytical data prior to result reporting and the selection and provision of suitable blood and blood products. You will have experience of LIMS, other IT systems and of Quality Management Systems.
Working as part of the team, you will contribute to the provision and further development of a high quality diagnostic service.
The department is UKAS ISO 15189:2022 accredited and accredited by the IBMS as a training laboratory.

Job responsibilities- To work under supervision to analyse clinical specimens (both diagnostic and screening) and become competent in performing specialist and routine investigations and molecular diagnostic techniques.
- To initially assess the analytical request and clinical information, in order to select the appropriate investigations from the range of analysis provided by the department.
- To act as a specialist stage registered Biomedical Scientist once qualified to perform a comprehensive range of routine, specialised and highly specialised anaylses.
- To process and analyse samples and quality control material and report results in accordance with departmental protocols as specified in the laboratory method manuals and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Under supervision, will develop the competence to analyse samples and interpret specialised/complex results and to carry out further analysis on the basis of these results.
- To record the results of all investigations on the laboratory computer system and issue reports via technical validation.
- When qualified, use developed knowledge and interpersonal skills to provide specialist non-clinical advice and guidance to service users, in order to provide the best care for the patient.
QualificationsEssential- Appropriate Science degree/equivalent qualification for HCPC registration
- Commenced HCPC registration portfolio
ExperienceEssential- Experience in a clinical laboratory, and a good understanding of laboratory health & safety issues
Desirable- Knowledge of COSHH and Risk Assessment
Knowledge/SkillsEssential- Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Computer literate
- Good organisational skills
- Continuously update knowledge of speciality
- Dextrous, good technique, able to handle fine pipettes and equipment
- Willingness to undertake CPD
- Ability to work as part of a team , or individually and organise and prioritise own workload
- Ability to concentrate for long periods with attention to detail
- Able to follow written and spoken instructions
- Willingness to paticipate in the extended working day system and weekend work/prepared to participate in shift rotas and out of hours work
