Description

About The Role
We are seeking a highly organised, compassionate, and computer-literate Oncology Nurse Advisor to join our specialist team. The Oncology Nurse Advisor plays a vital role in ensuring patients receiving systemic anti-cancer treatment (SACT) are clinically fit and prepared for treatment, while providing ongoing advice, monitoring, support, and reassurance throughout their cancer care journey.

This role is essential to the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of oncology services, combining clinical expertise with operational and administrative responsibilities to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care.

About You
Key Responsibilities
  • Review, interpret, and manage a high-volume workload of approximately 600–700 blood results per month, ensuring timely follow-up and escalation where required.
  • Conduct mid-cycle toxicity assessments, contacting patients to monitor treatment-related side effects, provide clinical advice, and accurately document outcomes.
  • Manage and respond to a high volume of patient communications, including approximately 300 inbound calls per month, ensuring queries are handled appropriately and efficiently.
  • Complete and support clinical triage calls (approximately 40 per month), assessing patient symptoms and escalating concerns to consultants or the wider clinical team as required.
  • Ensure patients are clinically prepared and appropriate for treatment by reviewing results, symptoms, and treatment-related assessments.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date patient records across relevant electronic systems.
  • Complete all clinical and administrative documentation in accordance with organisational policies, clinical governance requirements, and data protection standards.
  • Prioritise and manage competing demands effectively to ensure service targets and patient needs are met.
  • Act as a key point of contact for patients, consultants, hospitals, pharmacies, and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify, escalate, and support the resolution of any risks, delays, or issues that may impact patient care or treatment delivery.
  • Contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide patients with education, support, and reassurance throughout their treatment journey, promoting self-management where appropriate.

Skills and Experience
Essential
  • Registered Nurse with relevant oncology experience.
  • SACT Passport qualification.
  • Strong understanding of oncology treatments, toxicity management, and patient care pathways.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage a high-volume workload.
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • High level of IT literacy, including experience with patient record systems, databases, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work effectively within a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and supportive team player with a patient-centred approach.

Desirable
  • Experience managing patient helplines, telephone consultations, or patient-facing services.
  • Knowledge of cancer care pathways and oncology service delivery.
  • Experience working across multiple healthcare systems and stakeholders.
