Job summary
We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Research Fellow to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing a diverse workload and possess in-depth knowledge of research governance and regulatory compliance and have experience in clinical trials and research in IBD. The Research Fellow will join the St Mark's clinical team and research team to work on IBD academic research and commercial studies under the NIHR London North West Commercial Research Delivery Centre umbrella. The post holder will work closely with the IBD team and NHS Research Infrastructure, academic, and industry partners to strengthen collaboration, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance research capacity. They will also support budget holder responsibilities within R&I and represent our CRDC at relevant network meetings.

Main duties of the job
The post will provide the opportunity to undertake a variety of daytime activities as part of this role. The core element of this role is to support IBD clinical trial work (including IBD fatigue project) within St Mark's Hospital. St Mark's team participates in multiple research projects, and post holder will be expected to support the delivery of those projects under the supervision of the named supervisors, Professor Ailsa Hart and Dr Calum Moulton. Additional clinical activities may include:
  • IBD clinics and/or Transition clinics, Gastro wards cover, IBD day unit cover under the supervision of Professor Ailsa Hart.
  • Post-holder might also be asked to perform endoscopy lists.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • GMC registration
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCP
  • ATLS

Desirable
  • Experience at registrar level in gastroenterology at ST3 level or above
  • Other relevant courses, e.g. ALS, CCrISP, BSS

Knowledge
Essential
  • Completed MRCP
  • Experience or knowledge of NHS hospital practice

Desirable
  • Exposure to gastroenterology at ST3 level or above

Teaching
Essential
  • Experience of teaching and training more junior staff

Management/Audit
Essential
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Understanding of the principles of clinical governance
  • Understanding of audit

Desirable
  • Evidence of service audit

Research & Publications
Essential
  • Evidence of academic activity

Desirable
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals
  • Training in research methodology

Personal Skills
