Description

Job summary
The Warrell Unit at Saint Mary's Hospital is a major tertiary referral centre for Urogynaecology and pelvic floor disorders, serving women from across Greater Manchester, the North West and beyond. The Unit is one of the largest specialist Urogynaecology services in the country and has a longstanding national and international profile in pelvic floor medicine, reconstructive surgery, clinical research, education, and training.

The Unit is also an established RCOG Urogynaecology subspecialty training centre, with a strong tradition of advanced postgraduate training, clinical fellowships, and research. It supports the development of subspecialty and advanced Urogynaecology expertise and has close academic links with the University of Manchester.

Clinical practice spans the breadth of complex Urogynaecology, including urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapses, voiding dysfunction, recurrent urinary symptoms, pelvic floor reconstruction, mesh complications, fistula, and multidisciplinary pelvic floor disorders. The service works closely with Urology, Colorectal Surgery and other specialist teams and continues to develop minimally invasive and robotic approaches to pelvic floor reconstruction.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to join an experienced Consultant Urogynaecology team within a large tertiary service and to contribute to its continuing development in clinical care, advanced surgery, subspecialty training, research, and innovation.

Main duties of the job
  • To support and complement the secondary and tertiary Urogynaecology services provided by MFT
  • To take a role in improving the quality of services in MFT.
  • To take clinical responsibility for a defined cohort of women under their care, both when outpatients and inpatients, and provide cover for women under the care of other consultant colleagues as required.
  • To deliver outpatient clinics as agreed on the job plan.
  • To deliver operative treatment in theatre lists at MFT sites, including anticipated participation in weekend operating lists
  • To participate in the consultant rota patterns for the daytime and out of hours working at Wythenshawe Hospital and Oxford Road Campus sites.
  • To provide out of hours care as described in individual job plan.
  • To undertake the necessary administrative work relating to the post.
  • To participate in clinical teaching and training of the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • To take an active role in Clinical Governance, with opportunities to lead and participate in audit projects relevant to clinical care.
  • To promote research and academic activity within the department.

Locations
At present clinical activities are based at Oxford Road, North Manchester, and Wythenshawe Hospitals sites. As the SMH MCS service evolves, working may be required at other sites within the Trust and a successful candidate must be willing to be flexible in this regard.
