We are expanding our Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultant team, and we are looking for committed, compassionate and collaborative clinicians to join us.

This position is currently funded as a 12-month fixed term contract.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will provide excellent clinical leadership and deliver high-quality, safe, and family-centred care for children and young people attending the Paediatric Emergency Department. This includes direct patient care, leading the Paediatric Trauma and Resuscitation teams, and managing the department as the Emergency Physician in Charge (EPiC) .

The post includes both in-hours and out-of-hours work. The successful applicant will be involved in audit, service improvement, and clinical governance to support the ongoing development of the service. This position does not currently provide Programmed Activities for educational supervision.

What is a DBS Check?
A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:

• Standard DBS: Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.
• Enhanced DBS: Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police thats considered relevant to the role.
• Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the childrens and/or adults barred lists.

The Costs for a DBS
At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

Qualifications and experience
Essential

• MB ChB or equivalent
• FRCEM or MRCPCH or equivalent
• Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
• CCT in Emergency Medicine or Paediatrics with a subspecialty registration in Paediatric Emergency Medicine or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview or equivalent
• Experience of Audit
• Teaching of junior medical staff

Desirable

• MD, PhD or other higher degree
• Teaching of medical students
• Experience of supervision of ST1 level trainees including WBPAs and MSF
