We are looking for a Practice Nurse who has a specialism in diabetes.
Main duties of the jobThe Diabetes Practice Nurse will perform tasks prescribed and delegated by the GP Partners, working unsupervised to PGDs, agreed protocols and within defined competencies. The Diabetes Practice Nurse will assess patients and plan, implements and review treatment programs. The Diabetes Practice Nurse will have shared responsibility for training and supervision of new members of the nursing team and colleagues.

Job responsibilitiesWe are a training practice, use the EMIS Clinical system and have a strong emphasis on proactive teamwork. The successful candidate will work as part of the clinical team and be responsible for consulting with patients in respect of their continuing medical and nursing needs. Diabetes reviews skills, to include:
- Interpreting results
- Starting and adjusting medication
- Promoting lifestyle changes
- Managing reviews and follow ups
Treatment room skills, to include:
- Phlebotomy
- ECGs
- Removal of sutures/clips
- Wound care/dressings
- Contraception
- Cervical cytology
- Child and adult injections
- Hypertension management
Keep up to date with current guidelines and attend training updates as agreed with the practice.
Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Educated to degree level in Nursing.
- Good standard of education with excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Qualified in Diabetes.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong IT skills.
- Ability to prioritise, delegate and work to deadlines.
- Effective time management.
Desirable- Qualified in Phlebotomy, Immunisations, Cervical Cytology.
- Knowledge of EMIS Web.
- Proven problem solving & Analytical skills.
