Pharmacy Technician
Location: Remote
Hours: Up to 37.5 hours per week (Part-time and flexible working considered)
Reporting to: Lead Clinical Pharmacist

The Opportunity
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our growing team. You will play a vital role in bridging the gap between secondary and primary care, ensuring medication safety, and supporting our Clinical Pharmacists in high-level service delivery. This is a brilliant opportunity for a technician looking to expand their clinical reach within a supportive, forward-thinking environment.

Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Medicines Management
  • Prescribing Systems: Manage repeat medication requests, convert acute requests to repeat cycles where appropriate, and ensure prescribing aligns with agreed clinical protocols.
  • Transfer of Care: Lead the medicines reconciliation process for patients post-discharge or following transfers of care, liaising with secondary care colleagues to ensure seamless transitions.
  • Safety Monitoring: Assist in the implementation of safety systems for high-risk medications, ensuring required monitoring (blood tests, etc.) is completed before prescriptions are issued.
  • Alert Management: Action changes resulting from MHRA/CAS alerts, product withdrawals, and national guidance updates.

2. Quality Improvement & Data Insights
  • Audit & Analysis: Conduct clinical audits and analyze prescribing data to support QOF, QIPP, and locally commissioned services.
  • Service Development: Work with the pharmacy team to develop more efficient, safe, and cost-effective repeat prescribing systems.
  • Antimicrobial Stewardship: Support initiatives to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing across the network.

3. Patient Support & Collaborative Care
  • Shared Decision Making: Engage with patients to ensure they understand their medication, supporting chronic disease management and lifestyle changes.
  • Query Resolution: Serve as a dedicated point of contact for patients, GP colleagues, and community pharmacy partners regarding medication queries.
  • Engagement: Participate in practice meetings and Patient Participation Groups (PPGs) to promote the value of the pharmacy team.

About You
  • Qualified & Registered: You must be a registered Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC.
  • Primary Care Experience: (Preferred) Experience with clinical systems (EMIS, SystmOne) and an understanding of the PCN landscape.
  • Analytical Mindset: Comfortable using data to identify trends and improve patient safety.
  • Communication Pro: Able to explain complex medication issues to patients and clinicians with clarity and empathy.
