We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and passionate Registered Nurse to progress into a Charge Nurse role on Roding Ward, our specialist Cardiology and Cardiac High Dependency Unit within the renowned Essex Cardiothoracic Centre at Basildon Hospital.
As one of the busiest Heart Attack Centres in the UK, our 24/7 service provides life-saving care for patients across Essex and Suffolk, including those requiring primary angioplasty following acute myocardial infarction. We are also a designated Cardiac Arrest Centre, caring for some of the region's most critically ill cardiac patients.
Roding Ward delivers specialist care for a wide range of cardiology and electrophysiology conditions, including emergency cardiac pacing and advanced cardiac monitoring. As a Charge Nurse, you will play a key role in leading the team, supporting staff development, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient-centred care.
We currently have two part-time fixed-term opportunities available (12 months), ending in August 2027 and September 2027 respectively.

Main duties of the job- Deliver high-quality direct patient care within a specialist cardiology and cardiothoracic environment, ensuring safe, effective and patient-centred care at all times.
- Undertake a range of rostered responsibilities, including direct clinical care, Nurse in Charge/shift coordination and management of referrals through the Essex Heart Attack Service.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients requiring high dependency cardiac support, including non-invasive ventilation and intra-aortic balloon pump therapy.
- Provide specialist nursing care for patients undergoing elective cardiology procedures, including angioplasty, electrophysiology studies, ablation and cardiac device implantation.
- Support the Ward Manager and Senior Sister in the day-to-day management of the ward, including staff supervision, resource allocation and maintaining high standards of care.
- Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to ensure timely decision-making, effective communication and seamless patient pathways.
- Participate in clinical research and innovation initiatives, supporting the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre's commitment to advancing cardiovascular care.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and specialist training, working alongside the dedicated Practice Educator to develop advanced cardiac nursing knowledge and skills.
