Job summary
The Foetal Monitoring Lead Midwife will provide specialist leadership and oversight of foetal surveillance across maternity services, promoting safe, evidence-based and consistent practice. The postholder will work collaboratively with Maternity Matrons, Obstetric Consultants, Education and Governance teams to strengthen CTG practice, staff education and competency, clinical audit, incident learning and continuous quality improvement.

The role will support a strong safety culture, reduce variation in foetal monitoring practice and contribute to improved outcomes for women, babies and families.

Key focus: leadership, education, assurance, governance and continuous improvement in foetal surveillance.

Main duties of the job

• Provide clinical leadership and expert advice on foetal monitoring and surveillance.
• Lead CTG education, competency assessment and multidisciplinary learning.
• Undertake audit and monitoring of compliance with foetal surveillance standards.
• Work closely with Maternity Matrons, Obstetric Consultants, Education and Governance teams.
• Support incident review, learning and quality improvement relating to foetal monitoring.
• Promote safe, consistent, evidence-based practice to improve outcomes for mothers and babies.
