About the role
The Burn Centre at Pinderfields provides specialist care to patients who have sustained thermal injury or skin loss disorders. We are a regional centre of excellence and part of the Northern Burn Care Operational Delivery Network. We receive referrals from across Yorkshire, Humber and North Lincolnshire and cover a geographical catchment population of approximately 5 million.

The centre includes a 7 bedded in-patient area of which 2 are dedicated burn ICU beds. We have a busy ambulatory care unit and also provide an outreach service to patients across the region.

We are looking to appoint a full time band 4 Nursing Associate to work in the busy burn ambulatory care unit. This exciting role is to support the smooth running of the ambulatory care area, assisting with wound dressings and preparing patients for theatre. It is to work alongside the Registered Nurse assigned to the area who will be responsible for assessing all new patients, as well as seeing all patients who require follow up clinic appointments. On occasion, you may be asked to work in the other areas of the department (burn centre, out-reach or paediatrics).

If successful, you will work closely with the multidisciplinary team in a supportive environment to deliver high quality care in accordance with the 'National Standards for Provision and Outcomes in Adult and Paediatric Burn Care' (British Burn Association, 2023). We aim to provide our patients with exceptional care in a supportive and friendly environment. Full support will be given to enable you to gain extended competencies within burn care.

If you feel that you possess the necessary skills to fulfil one of these exciting new roles, please phone for further details.

Main duties
  • Deliver high-quality, compassionate care to patients attending the Burns Ambulatory Care Service, working within the scope of the Nursing Associate role under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.

  • Provide care and support for patients with a variety of burn injuries, ensuring individualised, patient-centred care that promotes healing, comfort, and wellbeing.
  • Maintain and develop clinical competence by undertaking occasional rotations within the Burn Centre, supporting the care of patients with more complex and extensive burn injuries under appropriate supervision.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), ensuring patients receive timely assessment and intervention from the medical team, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and other relevant healthcare professionals.
  • Recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns in both adults and children, following Trust safeguarding policies and escalating concerns promptly through the appropriate channels.
  • Provide patients and their families with education and support regarding wound care, scar management, rehabilitation, and ongoing recovery, reinforcing advice provided by the wider clinical team.
