Job summaryWe have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our team of plaster technicians. We are a very busy orthopaedic outpatients department at Mid Yorkshire NHS Teaching Trust. We have clinics Trustwide at Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury hospitals.
You will predominantly be based at Pinderfields which is our busiest site, providing a wide range of plaster services for adults and children. We have trauma (fracture) and elective clinics for both the adult and paediatrics.
The ideal candidate will have experience as a qualified plaster technician and be competent in carrying out all aspects of the plaster technician role.
Main duties of the job- To work with the multi-disciplinary team to provide a patient centred casting service.
- To remove and apply a wide range of plaster casts and orthosis to adults and children
- To undertake uncomplicated wound care and serial casting in a wide range of settings including the outpatient clinics, wards and theatres, also supporting the emergency department when required
- Able to manage own time and workload effectively and proactively engage with professional development to maintain their skills and expertise

Job responsibilities- Registered holder of the British Casting Certificate (BCC) SCQF Level 8 Diploma (formerly BOA(SON)/AOT qualification) or equivalent
- Able to demonstrate continuing professional development
- 5 GCSE grade C or equivalent
- Experienced in the application of a wide range of plaster casts
- Experienced in the application of orthotic devices
- Able to work in the multi-disciplinary team
- Experienced in giving appropriate advice to patients regarding their plaster cast / orthosis
- Up to date knowledge of current casting issues and practise
- Knowledge of trauma and orthopaedic conditions and treatment options
- Kowledge of casting techniques
- Awareness of own limitations
- Excellent level of knowledge of musculo-skeletal system
- Excellent understanding of patient care needs
- Able to plan, assess, implement and evaluate patient care
- Priortise tasks appropriately
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills

- Ability to work under pressure.
