Job summary
A rare exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated experienced Band 7 Senior Sister/ Charge Nurse to join our fast paced dynamic busy Emergency Department at Pinderfields Hospital.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated, dynamic and experienced Emergency Department Nurse to be part of our senior clinical nursing team. The role covers day and night shifts over a 7 day period.

The post holder will be responsible for assisting in the leadership of the department team and the co-ordination of the delivery of patient care within the clinical environment. Through clinical leadership, knowledge of the Trusts core values and utilisation of effective management skills the post holder will ensure that the department team is informed, trained and developed to enable care to be safely and effectively delivered to patients.

This will be achieved through appropriate deployment and supervision of staff and practice/professional development.

This role will operate within the clinical governance framework of the organisation and will work in a collaborative approach with the multidisciplinary team in the interests of developing and promoting high quality patient care.

As a clinical leader all activities provide the opportunity for acting as a role model for staff.

Main duties of the job
Clinical Leadership
The post holder will create, lead and maintain a nursing culture which is open to change, new ideas, concepts and innovation, whilst influencing Trust strategy and direction.

This will be achieved by:
  • A commitment to patients centred values.
  • Working with patients/families/carers and the multi-disciplinary team to provide therapeutic care that anticipates and responds to the needs of patients.
  • Helping to developing a philosophy of care which involves the rights of patients, carers and staff.
  • Creating a shared vision with the team, integrating and embracing risk taking, flexibility and change.
  • Providing clear direction and leadership for nurses on a shift by shift basis with regard to legal, ethical and professional dimensions of care.
  • Promoting peoples equality, diversity and rights.
  • Promoting an organisational philosophy and structure philosophy which enables the appropriate delegation of authority to all levels and encourages staff to take up development opportunities within existing or new roles.
  • Facilitating an environment in which critical appraisal of practice is fostered alongside innovative practice.
  • Being responsible for taking an overview of the contribution that other disciplines make to their clinical area and taking action to ensure efficiency is achieved.
  • Assisting in the development of annual departmental objectives, establishing service developments in line with Divisional and Trust plans.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Recent post registration experience in an emergency setting.
  • Evidence of competency in teaching and assessing
  • Evidence of further study within speciality

Experience
  • Substantial post registration experience with proven experience at team leader level
  • Relevant experience in specialty
  • Evidence of previous resource management experience
  • Experience in research and audit.

Skills and Abilities
  • Clear and concise written English skills
  • Good numeracy skills
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Analytical skills
  • Ability to manage own workload
  • Ability to talk to patients and relatives in a friendly manner
