Our Integrated Mental Health and Substance Misuse Team at HMP Long Lartin is looking for a dynamic and experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse. Our team is innovative, forward-thinking and committed to a recovery-focused approach.

Main duties of the job
Working effectively within the team, you will provide evidence-based interventions. You will manage a caseload of patients and undertake assessments and reviews.

Using the Care Programme Approach, you will act as a Care Coordinator, communicating effectively with those involved in the care of our patients in custody and on release.

The role requires you to be a reflective practitioner who is eager to work collaboratively with patients, carers and team members to contribute to the delivery of an effective, dynamic specialist mental health service.

You will work with individuals from initial assessment through to discharge, which may include transferring care to other providers, such as hospitals or Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs), while working with a variety of agencies across the Offender Health Pathway.

You will help to rehabilitate and support service users to live hopeful and fulfilling lives as members of the community.

• Take a Recovery focused and holistic approach in working with the people who access our services.
• Deliver care and interventions utilising the stepped care model, including provision of the CPA Framework where appropriate.
• Assess people's needs to develop, implement and evaluate personalised care plans.
• Facilitate therapeutic group work taking the lead where appropriate.
• Deliver evidenced based interventions.
• Identify people requiring hospital treatment and facilitate the timely transfer under The Mental Health Act.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

• Registered Mental Health Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register
• Evidence of recent CPD and compliance with NMC revalidation.
• Teaching Certificate including annual update (ENB 603) or related mentoring / coaching qualification

Experience
Essential

• Considerable experience of working in the mental health field.
• Experience of providing specialist interventions for those with mental health problems, counselling techniques, CBT, motivational interviewing.
• Experience of providing supervision and line management of staff.

Clearance
Essential

• Must have cat A clearance or be prepared to apply for this.
