This is an exciting opportunity to join the Regional Prosthetics Service based at Mayflower Community Hospital in a permanent role. This role involves providing leadership and expertise in the specialist care of individuals experiencing limb loss, while managing a diverse clinical caseload.
Main duties of the jobThe Role
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Regional Prosthetics Service, you will provide visible, professional, and managerial leadership to the nursing team. You will play a key role in ensuring safe, high-quality, evidence-based services for individuals experiencing limb loss. This includes supporting the delivery and development of a comprehensive, user-focused specialist service in collaboration with referrers, approved contractors, and suppliers.
- Provide clinical leadership and management to support the Regional Prosthetics Service.
- Drive continuous improvement and innovative service development.
- Develop and implement clinical care pathways for individuals experiencing limb loss.
- Ensure the service operates effectively in various settings, including clinics, home environments, schools, and specialist nursing homes.
- Oversee team management, including induction, supervision, recruitment, appraisals, and staff development.
- Offer expert guidance to other clinical areas, including regional vascular hubs.
- Lead on infection control, risk assessment, wound care, and safeguarding supervision.
- Maintain a clinical caseload, working autonomously as a practitioner.

Essential Skills and Qualifications- Registered nurse with extensive experience in the assessment and care of individuals with limb loss or pre-amputation.
- Proven ability to lead and manage clinical teams, ensuring alignment with organisational policies and standards.
- Expertise in developing and implementing clinical pathways and innovative practices within specialist services.
- Strong knowledge of infection control, risk assessment, wound care, and safeguarding practices.
- Ability to work across diverse clinical settings and adapt to the needs of service users.

Starting with NELFT NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary Period This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
High Cost Area Supplement – Fringe (Basildon, Thurrock, Brentwood, Harlow and Dartford only) This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £1,303 to a maximum of £2,198 p.a. pro rata for part time)
