Paediatric Audiology (developmental role)

Job summary
We are excited to offer an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Paediatric Audiologist to join our Audiology Service in a developmental role, appointed at Band 5 with progression to Band 6 upon successful completion of an agreed competency framework.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an Audiologist looking to build specialist paediatric experience whilst developing advanced clinical skills within a supportive and well-established service.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary Audiology team delivering high-quality diagnostic and habilitative services for children and young people aged 0-19 years. The role will provide structured development opportunities, specialist training and clinical supervision to support progression towards independent Band 6 practice.

Alongside clinical work, the post holder will support service development, quality improvement initiatives and the service journey towards Improving Quality in Physiological Services (IQUIPS) accreditation.

This post is ideal for someone looking to grow their clinical expertise, develop specialist paediatric Audiology skills and progress their career within a supportive NHS environment.

Main duties of the job

• Deliver Audiology assessments and hearing services for children and young people aged 0-19 years appropriate to level of competency
• Participate in a structured development programme designed to support progression from Band 5 to Band 6
• Develop specialist paediatric Audiology knowledge and advanced diagnostic competencies
• Work towards managing an independent clinical caseload following competency sign-off
• Support the service with IQUIPS accreditation preparation and quality improvement activity
• Undertake training in specialist diagnostic procedures including paediatric hearing assessments and hearing aid management
• Participate in audit, service development and continuous improvement work across the service
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, families and partner organisations to deliver safe and effective patient care
• Maintain accurate clinical records and support effective service delivery across the department
• Engage in regular supervision, competency assessments and ongoing professional development

Job description
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful candidate will join a supportive Audiology team providing specialist hearing assessment and management services for children and young people across the service.

This is a developmental post designed to support career progression for an Audiologist who may not yet meet full Band 6 competencies but demonstrates the potential and commitment to develop into a specialist paediatric role.

The post holder will undertake a structured competency programme supported by senior clinicians, enabling them to progressively build knowledge, technical expertise and confidence in delivering paediatric Audiology services independently.

The role will involve delivery of routine and specialist hearing assessments, hearing aid support, patient management and collaborative working with wider health professionals and partner services.

In addition to clinical work, the post holder will contribute to service development, audit activity and support the Audiology service in achieving and maintaining IQUIPS accreditation standards, helping drive quality improvement and best practice across the service.

Progression to Band 6 will be dependent on successful completion of agreed competencies, achievement of required clinical standards and formal sign-off by the service.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Goodmayes Hospital.

Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High Cost Area Supplement – Outer London
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,714 to a maximum of £5,941 p.a. pro rata for part time).
