Job summary
Are you a senior clinician with the strategic vision, credibility and experience to lead improvement across London?
NHS England are recruiting a Clinical Director working in London's health and care system to provide visible strategic leadership across the stroke pathway.
Working with clinical leaders, Integrated Care Boards, providers, patient representative groups, Health Innovation Networks and other strategic partners, you will lead and design a London-wide programme focused on improving clinical outcomes, reducing unwarranted variation and supporting the spread and adoption of evidence-based practice and innovation. You will provide expert clinical advice, strategic leadership and act as an ambassador for clinical improvement across London.
You will be a clinically qualified senior leader with GMC or other appropriate professional registration and a licence to practise, with significant NHS leadership experience and recognised expertise in stroke care. You will bring the influence, judgement and collaborative leadership needed to deliver change across London's complex health and care system. This is why strategic and operational leadership experience in London is important.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead the improvement of outcomes and experience of care for the London population and to coordinate action to reduce health inequalities.
The time commitment for this role is 0.1 WTE.
Main duties of the job
Working with other Clinical Network Directors and strategic partners, the post-holder will contribute to the regional delivery of the 10-Year Health Plan and implementation of the Cardiovascular Modern Service Framework.
About us
NHS England has a wide range of statutory functions, responsibilities and regulatory powers. These are focused on supporting the wider NHS to deliver high quality care, as well as doing those things that are best done once for the whole NHS.
Our staff bring expertise across clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial specialisms -- enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.
In March 2025, the Government announced that NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care will increasingly merge functions, ultimately leading to NHS England being fully integrated into the department.
If you currently work within the NHS and if successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the process.
Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in our offices.
We cannot offer visa sponsorship for external candidates.
