Specialist Optometrist IVT
Eye Out Patients Department, ARI
Band 7
Up to 4 sessions - 4 hours per session
This is an exciting opportunity for Optometrists to take on a specialist role undertaking Intravitreal injections within the Ophthalmology department at ARI.
The successful candidates will be trained in all aspects of Intravitreal Injection following a well-established training protocol. They will join our existing team of optometry and nurse IVT injectors and will undertake sessions as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team within the Medical Retina service. This is a great entry point for those with an interest in hospital optometry.
We have a team of 10 Optometrists working in ARI, five of which currently do routine IVT injections. ARI was the first department to use Optometrists in this role and this model has since been utilised in several other hospital departments. There is a comprehensive training protocol which takes you through every step involved in IVT. Each session you will learn some aspects of the technique until able to perform a full injection routine.
Working in the hospital eye service offers the opportunity to work as part of a larger multidisciplinary team. Day to day you would be assisted by a health care support worker and have a nursing support in an adjacent room. Our Optometrists value the different working environment and pace of the clinics from their community roles. Each Optometrist that we have recruited has gone on to extend their hospital optometry role in a variety of fields. If you have any interest in hospital optometry, it is a good entry point to work with the team and get experience. If you would like more information or would like to observe IVT's being undertaken prior to applying please get in touch.
