We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly specialised Cardiac Physiologist to join the Cardiology team within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde's South Sector, primarily based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH). The successful candidate will support the delivery and development of a comprehensive cardiac physiology service, with a particular focus on echocardiography and the developing Ambulatory Care Hub. The role offers opportunities to work across a range of specialist services, participate in research echocardiography and contribute to service development. Specialist training and support will be provided where required.

Applicants should hold a BSc in Clinical Physiology from an AHCS/RCCP-approved educational provider, or an equivalent qualification and experience approved by either body, together with Masters-level professional accreditation in adult transthoracic echocardiography, or be working towards this.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) may be able to provide visa sponsorship for certain roles, subject to the post meeting the relevant eligibility criteria. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and will be determined on a case-by-case basis following interview and during the pre-employment verification process. Applicants must state their current right to work in their application.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
  • Permanent position
  • Base location: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), Govan Road, Glasgow, G51 4TF.
  • Hours: 36 hours per week.
  • Work pattern: Monday to Tuesday: 9:00am–5:00pm. Wednesday to Friday: 9:00am–4:30pm.
  • Working arrangements: The post will primarily support the Ambulatory Care Hub and will involve rotation across echocardiography services and cross-site working.

Key responsibilities:
The post holder will contribute to the delivery of a well-established echocardiography service covering acute inpatients, cardiology outpatients and wider specialties across the South Sector. Responsibilities will include supporting physiologist-led GP direct access services for the investigation of murmurs, palpitations and heart failure, as well as providing echocardiography support to complex clinics at QEUH, Maternity and the West Glasgow Ambulatory Care Hospital (WGACH).

The role will involve participation in the developing research echocardiography service, with support available where required. The wider Cardiac Physiology service includes routine and complex pacemaker and device follow-up, including CRT and His Bundle follow-up, remote monitoring across major manufacturers, a physiologist-led implantable loop recorder service, syncope follow-up, and resting and ambulatory ECG and blood pressure monitoring and exercise testing.

The post holder will contribute to service development through the NHSGGC Managed Clinical Network for Heart Disease and support the development of extended-scope roles for physiologists. Rotation across services and cross-site working will be required, with specialist training provided as appropriate.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
  • BSc in Clinical Physiology from an AHCS/RCCP-approved educational provider, or equivalent qualification and experience approved by either body.
