Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist specialising in Dysphagia with Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust to join the Childrens Speech and Language Therapy (CYP Therapies) team at Queensway Health Centre. You will be responsible for providing highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy input within your area of expertise, delivering child-centred and evidence-based interventions and management programmes. You will work autonomously while demonstrating effective leadership and management skills, support and provide professional guidance to less experienced SLT staff, contribute to the development and review of service policies and procedures, and play an active role in service improvement in line with best practice, current research and commissioning priorities.

Main duties of the job
As a Paediatrics Speech and Language Therapist specialising in Dysphagia, you will be responsible for maintaining your own continuous professional development within your specialist area, including networking with other professionals at regional and national levels. You will be managing differential diagnosis, recognising your professional competencies and duty of care, and providing professional supervision in accordance with local policies and procedures. You will be supporting the development of skills across the SLT team and wider childrens workforce through training and joint working, supervising and allocating work to colleagues within the service where appropriate, and contributing to the development of innovative approaches to enhance the delivery of care.

Job responsibilities
Responsibilities of this job role
  • To support compliance with safeguarding requirements, including following relevant child protection procedures and contributing to assessments, reports and case conferences where appropriate.
  • To maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in accordance with information governance requirements, ensuring appropriate standards are followed when managing and sharing records.
  • To contribute to SEND appeals, case planning meetings and Tribunals where required, providing relevant clinical information, written reports and professional evidence to support appropriate decision-making.
  • To manage clinical and non-clinical risks within the service, identifying concerns promptly and taking appropriate action in accordance with organisational risk management procedures.
  • To participate in recruitment, selection and interview processes when required, and provide operational support to the service, including deputising for the Clinical Lead when appropriate.
  • To manage resources within the specialist area, including maintaining standardised assessment equipment, identifying opportunities for cost efficiencies and supporting the implementation of delegated cost improvement measures.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Relevant clinical degree, Postgraduate Diploma or MSc leading to HCPC registration.
  • Masters-level equivalent knowledge of complex communication needs and paediatric dysphagia.
  • Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists with active CPD.
  • SystmOne knowledge desirable, with full UK driving licence and own car essential.
