Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Occupational Therapist in Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust to join the Community Rehabilitation Team in Elizabeth Quarter. You will be responsible for assessing service users with complex mental health needs, designing and implementing person-centred occupational therapy interventions to support their recovery, and evaluating their progress. You will manage and deliver individual and group-based interventions, including designing and facilitating both face-to-face and online groups, while supporting service users with their occupational and vocational needs. You will also work closely with partnership agencies and community services to ensure effective coordination of care and promote meaningful engagement, independence and recovery within the community.

Main duties of the job
As an Advanced Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for providing specialist clinical practice within a defined clinical area or pathway, applying enhanced clinical reasoning and professional expertise. You will be managing and supervising junior staff, support workers and Occupational Therapy Assistants, providing regular guidance and professional development to enhance their skills and practice. You will be supporting the establishment and maintenance of effective links with statutory and voluntary sector organisations to strengthen local service pathways and facilitate safe transitions. You will contribute to the evaluation and development of practice within the specialism, ensuring compliance with national and local policies, guidelines and professional frameworks. You will also be responsible for contributing to audit, clinical effectiveness and research activity, applying findings to improve professional practice. In addition, you will be supporting clinical specialist OTs, operational managers and professional leads with the improvement, development and modernisation of services

Job responsibilities
TO use the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) framework and relevant standardised assessments to structure clinical practice, support formulation and measure outcomes before and after therapy.

TO manage and prioritise an allocated caseload effectively, maintaining accurate clinical documentation, treatment records, assessment forms and written transfer or discharge reports in accordance with Trust requirements.

TO delegate appropriate clinical tasks to Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants, ensuring delegated activities are within their knowledge, competence and scope of practice.

TO provide education and guidance to service users and carers, individually or in groups, ensuring appropriate information is provided regarding the management of identified needs and that relevant records are maintained.

TO communicate complex, sensitive or distressing information with compassion and professionalism, including within challenging situations, working constructively with service users, carers, colleagues and other agencies.

TO contribute to multidisciplinary case reviews and professional OT meetings, sharing relevant clinical information, supporting coordinated decision-making and maintaining consistency of practice across community, inpatient and specialist services.

Qualifications

• Occupational Therapy Degree/Diploma with current HCPC registration. Senior post-registration experience in adult mental health services. Experience of occupational therapy assessments, interventions and recovery-focused practice. Experience of staff supervision, multidisciplinary working, audit and continuing professional development. Excellent communication, leadership, organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to work autonomously.
