Job Summary
As a Sonographer, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate clinical documentation, producing clear and timely reports for referring clinicians, and ensuring all patient records are completed in line with departmental and professional standards. You will be managing patient interactions with sensitivity and professionalism, providing appropriate explanations throughout examinations, and supporting patients who may require additional reassurance or guidance. You will be responsible for escalating concerns, following referral pathways, and ensuring patient care is delivered in accordance with medical ethics and best practice. You will be supporting the development of colleagues by contributing to training activities, providing supervision and guidance to less experienced staff, and promoting a safe and effective working environment. You will also be responsible for maintaining your professional knowledge through continued learning, participating in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and research activities to support the ongoing development of ultrasound practice

Main Duties of the Job
As a Sonographer, you will be responsible for applying specialist technical expertise and professional judgement when managing complex clinical situations and ensuring appropriate decisions are made within your scope of practice. You will be managing the safe and effective use of ultrasound equipment, maintaining high standards of technical performance and adhering to relevant policies, procedures, and safety requirements. You will be supporting the wider clinical team by providing specialist advice when required and contributing to effective communication between healthcare professionals. You will be responsible for recognising clinical limitations, seeking appropriate advice from senior colleagues where necessary, and maintaining your specialist knowledge through ongoing learning and professional development.

Job Responsibilities
  • To manage the organisation of daily workload by coordinating appointment requirements, prioritising urgent requests where appropriate, and supporting the smooth running of ultrasound activity within the department
  • To maintain a safe and effective working environment by ensuring equipment, including transducers, is cleaned and maintained appropriately, while identifying and escalating any environmental or safety concerns.
  • To support service coordination by liaising with relevant teams regarding appointment planning, emergency bookings, and operational requirements to ensure effective use of departmental resources.
  • To maintain accurate use of departmental systems by recording, entering, and tracking relevant information while assisting with associated administrative processes when required.
  • To support the effective running of the department by assisting colleagues, sharing practical knowledge, and contributing to a collaborative working environment.
  • To contribute to service development by supporting the review and implementation of departmental processes, protocols, patient information resources, and improvement initiatives

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • HCPC registered Radiographer with relevant ultrasound registration.
  • Relevant qualification in Medical, Early Pregnancy, or Gynaecological Ultrasound (DCR/BSc/PGD/MSc).
  • Extensive specialist ultrasound experience with ability to work independently.
  • Experience in ultrasound reporting, clinical decision-making, and use of imaging IT systems.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and leadership skills with experience supporting trainees and colleagues
