Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Theatre Scrub Nurse/ODP at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to join the Theatres Department at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. You will be responsible for supporting clinicians across a variety of surgical specialities, providing skilled assistance during the administration and maintenance of anaesthesia, undertaking scrub and circulating duties, and delivering high-quality care within PACU. You will play a key role in ensuring safe, patient-centred care, acting as an advocate for patients throughout their perioperative journey, and supporting the smooth operation of theatre services. You will also undertake delegated responsibility for theatre coordination and operational management in the absence of senior staff while demonstrating the Trust's CARE values of Compassion, Ambition, Respect and Encouragement.

Main duties of the job
As a Theatre Practitioner, you will be responsible for delivering professional clinical practice in accordance with established standards, policies, and best practice guidelines. You will support clinical governance and continuous service improvement initiatives, contribute to the effective management of resources and team activities, and help maintain a safe and efficient working environment. You will support the development of colleagues and learners while maintaining your own professional competence, promote effective communication across multidisciplinary teams, and champion equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of care and service delivery.

Job responsibilities
  • To supervise and coordinate activities within the theatre environment, delegating duties appropriately and supporting the effective utilisation of staffing resources to meet service demands.
  • To maintain accurate patient documentation and theatre records, ensuring all clinical information, procedural details, and activity data are completed in line with professional, legal, and organisational requirements.
  • To ensure the safe management of medicines, equipment, and clinical resources, reporting faults promptly and supporting the availability of safe and effective facilities for patient care.
  • To participate in multidisciplinary safety processes, including team briefs, de-briefs, and safety checks, promoting effective information sharing and collaborative working practices.
  • To respond effectively to emergency, complex, and unforeseen situations, applying professional judgement and specialist knowledge to support safe decision-making and service continuity.
  • To contribute to audit, research, incident reporting, and compliance activities, supporting the monitoring of service performance and adherence to infection prevention, health and safety, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications
  • HCPC registered Operating Department Practitioner (ODP). Recognised Operating Department Practice qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience working within theatre and/or PACU environments. Strong communication, organisational, and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to high-quality patient care
