Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Deputy Sister/charge nurse in gynaecology. This is a clinical and leadership role supporting safe, compassionate, specialist care across the speciality, including a 16 bedded ward with an emergency pathway, Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU), and outpatient department.

The Band 6 Deputy provides senior clinical leadership, ensures high-quality patient care, and supports the day-to-day coordination of services across the gynaecology departments. The role blends hands-on clinical expertise with supervisory responsibilities, making it ideal for an experienced nurse ready to step into a more autonomous leadership position.

Main duties of the job

• Clinical leadership -- Act as a visible, supportive senior nurse, leading shifts, coordinating patient flow, and ensuring safe staffing across all areas.
• Specialist gynaecology care -- Deliver and oversee evidence-based care for patients with acute and chronic gynaecological conditions, early pregnancy complications, and postoperative needs.
• EPAU expertise -- Support early pregnancy assessment, including triage, sensitive communication, and management of urgent presentations.
• Outpatient support -- Contribute to smooth clinic operations, patient education, and continuity of care across the outpatient pathway. Incorporating hands on clinical working in colposcopy and hysteroscopy.
• Team supervision -- Mentor junior staff, support induction, and contribute to ongoing professional development within the team.
• Quality & safety -- Participate in audits, incident reviews, and service improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and clinical outcomes.
• Patient-centred communication -- Provide compassionate, sensitive support to patients and families, particularly during emotionally challenging situations such as pregnancy loss.
• Multidisciplinary collaboration -- Work closely with medical, sonography, and allied health teams to ensure seamless, coordinated care.
