Job summaryWe have an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and progressive Outpatient team, with amazing opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills within a friendly, supportive team. The successful candidate will join our established outpatient hand therapy service, providing musculoskeletal and rheumatology assessment, advice and treatment to patients referred by Trauma, Orthopaedic, Rheumatology, GP's, AHP's, FCP's and ED Advanced practitioners. We have excellent communication with the consultants and other members of the MDT.
This post holder will be responsible for delivering trauma and orthopaedic Occupational Therapy services with some overlap into rheumatology. The post will require you to work across both sites.

Main duties of the jobIdeally, you will have experience working within the field of hand therapy and management of complex chronic conditions, and be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical reasoning and skills within these areas, although a training post would be considered for band 5's wishing to branch out into a speciality team and service.
The duties of the candidate will be, provide assessments, advice, and treatment for your own case load. Therefore, you would be expected to have skills and knowledge in assessment and treatment planning, bespoke and orthotic splint provision, and other treatment modalities in line with current national guidelines for hand therapy.
You will be required to provide supervision and undertake leadership tasks. We offer excellent team support and regular informal and formal supervision with experienced clinicians.
CPD is offered in the form of regular in-service training, internal and external courses.
Evidence of previous involvement with audit and student education is desirable.

Job responsibilities- To manage your clinical caseload with autonomy, guided by policies, procedures, codes of practice and departmental working practices
- To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients including those with a complex presentation, using investigative and advanced analytical skills and clinical reasoning.
- Using developed knowledge and experience to make a therapeutic diagnosis of a patients condition and interpret clinical findings and documentation to formulate a comprehensive specialised programme of care, including decision making about the most appropriate treatment options. This may be for patients with a wide range of diagnoses and problems and will need regular updating to ensure to ensure optimum therapeutic outcome. For example, where self-referral occurs, clinical diagnosis is made, and a programme of care is developed.
- To supervise less experienced staff and students in the provision of patient care.
- To provide planned and spontaneous advice to patients/clients, junior staff, staff of other disciplines, formal and informal carer/relatives.
- To have highly developed physical skills for the treatment of patients. This may involve the use of specialist equipment, materials, and tools, for example for splinting, computers, equipment for activities of daily living.

Person SpecificationExperienceEssential- Previous experience working within the NHS.
- Previous experience in broadly similar area of work.
- Core rotations in an acute field
- Experience of supervising, appraising and training staff and students.
Desirable- Previous experience at Band 6
- Previous experience with client group in acute setting.
- Clinical educator certification
QualificationsEssential- BSc Hons Occupational Therapy or equivalent
- Registered with HCPC
- Evidence of CPD
- Relevant post graduate training.
Desirable- Post registration qualification in specialist area
