Job summary
INTERNAL ONLY TO NORTH CUMBRIA INTEGRATED CARE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST (NCIC) EMPLOYEES

We are inviting expressions of interest for an Interim Laboratory Operational Manager, Cell Sciences to provide leadership and operational oversight during a period of absence of the substantive post holder.

This is a key role within the Cellular Sciences service, supporting the delivery of safe, effective and resilient operations at a time when the service is in active recovery.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide day-to-day operational leadership across Cellular Sciences, ensuring safe and efficient service delivery.
  • Support the implementation of the PathologyRecovery Plan and maintain progress against key actions.
  • Work closely with clinical and scientific leads to manage workflow, capacity, staffing and performance.
  • Oversee compliance with quality, accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to workforce planning, staff engagement and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Ensure effective communication and escalation within the service and to Collaborative leadership.

Enhanced Check: £49.50 + administration cost of £6.50 = £56.00. Deducted from salary over following 4 months or one off payment.

Person Specification

Qualifications
Essential
  • HCPC registration as a BMS.
  • Relevant MSc or equivalent.
  • Essential IT skills (EITS) or equivalent.

Desirable
  • Foundation management certificate or equivalent.
  • Health and safety certificate or equivalent.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Cell sciences in at least one relevant discipline.
  • Operational management within an NHS laboratory to include quality, staff, finance, risk, facilities management.
  • Use of IT systems, including word processing, database, and presentations.
  • Developing teams to achieve organisational goals.
  • Best practice in Cell science.
  • Health and safety legislation.
  • Governance and risk management.
  • Quality management. Regulatory and professional standards

Desirable
  • Cell sciences in more than one relevant discipline.
  • Involvement in NHS service development or reconfiguration
  • Capacity and demand management
  • Performance management
  • HPA standards
  • Equality impact assessment.

Skills and Aptitudes
Essential
  • Demonstrable leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Extensive IT skills.
  • Ability to manage complex issues through a range of approaches.
  • Ability to deal with difficult and sensitive situations.
  • Ability to make decisions on competing pressures and to precise timescales
  • Maintain continuing professional development evidenced through personal portfolio

  • Flexible approach to work patterns
  • Able to travel between hospital sites, and more widely, according to service needs.

  • Driving licence
