Job Summary
Band 5 Theatre Recovery Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner

We have 37.5 hours in our Recovery Department. Full time and part time hours will be considered.

We are currently recruiting Band 5 Recovery Practitioners (Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner) to work in our Recovery Suite which provides perioperative care for both adults and children in the following specialities: Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Urology, Upper GI and Colorectal, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Vascular and breast surgery.

We provide exemplary planned one to one care for patients who have had general or regional anaesthetic. This care varies from patients following the day surgery pathway to patients following enhanced care pathways for major surgery.

This post is not only suitable for experienced Registered Nurses/Operating Department Practitioners, but it is an exciting start to any newly qualified RN/ODPs career. A preceptorship period is offered to all successful applicants, but our Trust has a dedicated one year preceptorship programme offering ten study days during this period to enhance any newly qualified RN/ODPs knowledge and skills.

Main Duties of the Job
The main role of this post is to provide excellent safe post-operative/anaesthetic care following the NCIC values and policies for all patients undergoing surgery within the Theatre Department.

To assess, plan implement and evaluate programs of care in partnership with the patient and the multidisciplinary team.

The Recovery Practitioner will carry out post-operative care in our recovery area and the Maternity Unit.

The post holder will demonstrate the compassionate values and behaviours need for dignified care.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner with active NMC/HCPC Registration
  • Commitment to undertake mentorship module on completion of preceptorship qualification.

Desirable
  • NMC/HCPC recognisable mentorship qualification
  • Post Registration qualification in speciality
  • Diploma/degree in Nursing.
  • D32/33 or equivalent qualification
  • leadership skills

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Able to manage a Ward/Department area for a period of a shift.
  • Extended scope of practice skills, e.g. venepuncture.
  • Experience of managing and co-ordinating a team.
  • Understanding of expanded roles / professional practice issues.
  • Relevant nursing/practitioner duties
  • Continuing professional development, with portfolio.
  • NMC Code of Conduct
