The Islington Integrated Locality Therapies Team (IILTT) is a friendly and dynamic multidisciplinary community rehabilitation service supporting adults with neurological conditions and complex physical disabilities across Islington.

We are seeking an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to join our team and work alongside the Lead Clinical Neuropsychologist. This varied role offers opportunities to undertake specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessment, formulation and intervention, supporting individuals experiencing the emotional, cognitive, and behavioural impact of neurological conditions.

You will also contribute to neuropsychological assessments for patients referred by Consultant Neurologists under the care of the Whittington Hospital's Outpatient Neurology Department, gaining experience across a wide range of neurological presentations.

This is an excellent opportunity for psychologists wishing to develop specialist neuropsychology skills. The post provides regular specialist supervision and experience that supports progression towards the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN). We have a strong track record of supporting psychologists to successfully achieve this qualification.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessment, formulation and intervention for adults with neurological conditions and complex physical disabilities within the Islington Integrated Locality Therapies (IILT) Stroke and Neurorehabilitation Team. Working as part of a multidisciplinary community rehabilitation service, they will provide consultation and specialist advice to health and social care professionals, support the assessment and management of complex cognitive, emotional and behavioural difficulties, and contribute to rehabilitation and discharge planning.

The role also includes delivering specialist neuropsychological assessments for patients referred by Consultant Neurologists within the Whittington Hospital Outpatient Neurology Department, providing experience across a broad range of neurological presentations and diagnostic questions.

The post holder will supervise trainee and assistant psychologists, contribute to teaching and training activities, and provide consultation and support to multidisciplinary colleagues. They will also contribute to service development, audit, research and quality improvement initiatives, ensuring services remain evidence-based and responsive to patient needs. The post holder will maintain high professional standards through ongoing CPD, clinical governance activities, and adherence to HCPC, BPS and Trust policies and procedures.

Job responsibilities

• 3.1.1 To provide specialist neuropsychological assessments of referred clients, using interview, formal psychometric and other assessment methods as appropriate.
• 3.1.2 To formulate and devise psychological treatment and management plans for referred clients and to provide psychological treatment, using a range of specialist psychological interventions (e.g., cognitive-behavioural) appropriate to the clients presenting problem.
• 3.1.3 To provide specialist neuropsychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals within IILT Stroke and Neurorehabilitation Team, social services and other health services to assist in the formulation, diagnosis and treatment of clients.
• 3.1.4 To provide reports and communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients.
• 3.1.5 To undertake responsibilities as a member of the multiprofessional IILT Stroke and Neurorehabilitation Team, including attending team meetings.
• 3.1.6 To liaise with specialist units around the country with whom Islington patients are placed, monitoring the rehabilitation programmes provided in the units and planning for discharge back to local services.

Qualifications
Essential

• Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent) as accredited by the HCPC.
• Completion of further post-doctoral post-qualification specialist training including: (1) In-house one-year CPD programme for newly qualified psychologists or equivalent and (2) Training in supervision of trainee clinical psychologists

Experience
Essential

• Experience of specialist psychological assessment (including neuropsychological assessment) and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including experience of neurorehabilitation and/or neuropsychological assessment settings.
• Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups with neurological disorders, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
• Completion of substantial post-doctoral post-qualification supervised clinical experience.
• Experience and interest in working with people with neurological disorders
• Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.

Desirable

• Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
• Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.

• Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment (neuropsychological assessment), intervention and management.
