Job summaryThe Adult Mental Health CMHT's are looking to recruit a full time Band 8c Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
The successful candidate will:
- Be compassionate in meeting the needs of clients, their carers and families.
- Provide clinical supervision and training to less experienced colleagues within the designated psychology service and to other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Undertake formal research as a major part of the job and act as field supervisor to doctorate trainees.
- Lead continual service improvement within own area.
Main duties of the job- Implements a range of highly specialist psychological therapies for individual clients with complex mental health difficulties, adjusting and refining psychological formulations as required.
- Undertakes highly skilled evaluations and assessments, formulates care plans and makes decisions about treatment options including supporting other clinical staff to create appropriate therapy care plans and decision making where referral on is appropriate, including liaising with other services to ensure timely handover.
- Provides highly specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other staff contributing directly to client's diagnosis, formulation and intervention plan.
- Leads decision-making by planning and mapping processes/interventions with members of the team to determine the most appropriate treatment modality or service for clients including allocation of casework to therapists and care planning via line management of staff.
- Meet frequently with IAPT managers to ensure a smooth and client-centred pathway for service users to receive intervention from the appropriate level of staff

Job responsibilities- Adjusts and refines psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
- Evaluates and makes decisions about treatment options, taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
- Assesses, diagnoses and makes clinical judgements involving a range of highly complex factors in the context of inadequate or unavailable information, equivocal research/evidence or where expert opinion differs (e.g. conflict between medical and psychological models).
- The post holder may be required to work in locations other than those specified in the job description as required by service need.
- To provide individual supervision for clinical psychologists and psychological therapists (from trainee to 8b level) across Community Directorate teams.
- Organises own workload on a day-to-day basis, prioritising work as appropriate.
QualificationsEssential- Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical / counselling psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
- HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist
- Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
- Clear ongoing commitment to specialist area of expertise through post-doctoral study and experience.
DesirableExperienceEssential- Substantial experience of Working as a qualified applied psychologist within the designated service including a wide variety of client groups including adult, with a range of clinical severity across care settings.
- Experience of working with adults with complex mental health needs.
- Experience of taking full clinical responsibility for clients with risk issues and range of complex psychological problems
- Liaison and joint working with statutory, voluntary and private sector agencies
- Teaching, training, clinical supervision and field supervisor for doctoral theses.
- Experienced in delivering supervision to psychology and non-psychology staff.
- Experience in providing consultation to non-psychology staff including medical professionals.
- Lead in quality and service improvement initiatives.
- Lead and development of research projects

- Experience of management of professional staff
KnowledgeEssential- Doctoral level knowledge of Evidence-based practice relevant to the role
- Highly developed knowledge and skills in the care of difficult to treat groups e.g. dual diagnoses, additional disabilities or severely challenging behaviour
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health and its implications for clinical practice.
