In conjunction with the Band 7 Critical Care Educators at NWAFT the post holder will:
- Facilitate training, education and support the practice and development of all relevant clinical staff related to the care of Critically Ill patients
- Provide support where needed for education needs arising from critical care projects which cross boundaries into ward areas. eg. Tracheostomy education / ALERT training and Critical Care Transfer training
- Contribute to multi-disciplinary education and teaching with regard to expert critical care knowledge, skills, competencies and equipment
- Assist with the induction processes for all registered and unregistered staff
Main duties of the jobIn addition to the above descriptions the postholder will develop and assist with the delivery of training and education to meet gaps identified through training needs analysis and to ensure the maintenance and compliance with Critical Care National Education Frameworks

Job responsibilitiesThis post is for a 12-month Band 6 secondment into the role of Critical Care educator with a primary base at Peterborough City Hospital. The successful candidate will help to facilitate training, education and support the practice and development of all relevant clinical staff related to the care of Critically Ill patients. They will work in conjunction with the Band 7 Critical Care Educators at NWAFT.
Main responsibilities will include:
- To ensure that staff are trained, educated, and developed to their potential, to meet the demands of the service in liaison with Band 7 Educators.
- To Identify and work with individuals who lack in competence / confidence to ensure that they are fit for practice and purpose.
- To monitor and help maintain compliance with mandatory and local Critical Care competencies for all members of staff.
- To deliver education and collaboratively enable compliance with national competency/education frameworks: ie the Critical Care National competency framework
QualificationsEssential- NMC Registered Nurse
- Supervisor/Assessor status or Mentorship qualification
- Post Registration Critical Care qualification
Desirable- Leadership Qualification
- PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification
ExperienceEssential- A minimum of two years experience of working within Critical Care
- Evidence of both formal and informal teaching activities
Desirable- Involvement with evidence-based project work and change management
KnowledgeEssential- Evidence of personal CPD
- Role Model for High Level Nursing Practice and Clinical Expert within Critical Care Knowledge and Skills Framework
