Job summaryAs a valid member of our MDT you will play a key role in the care of our patients from the moment they arrive in theatre until they return to the ward.
You will assist in the preparation of the operating theatres prior to surgery and support our qualified staff during procedures.
Although no previous experience is require, you must be enthusiastic and compassionate with a methodical approach to your workload.
Main duties of the jobThe Operating Department Support Worker provides assistance to registered professionals within the perioperative care setting in General Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology & Emergency Services carrying out patient care under the direction of a trained theatre practitioner, ensuring that a high standard of care is maintained.
Through their close contact with the patient, the Operating Department Support Worker plays an important part in meeting the needs of the patients before; during and following surgical or anaesthetic procedures.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Maths and English skills equivalent to Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Operating Department Support or Health-related subject
Desirable- Completion of Care Certificate
ExperienceEssential- Evidence of ability to work using own initiative and under minimal supervision
- Experience in a healthcare environment or Operating Theatres
Desirable- Commitment to lifelong learning
SkillsEssential- Ability to communicate clearly in English in writing, via IT, verbally and using the telephone
- Ability to cope well with change
- Ability to work effectively in a team
- Ability to stay calm under pressure
Desirable- Ability to report problems and faults
