We are looking for a dedicated and motivated Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day management of our Ashfield Care service. This is an exciting opportunity which combines leadership responsibilities and helping to deliver high-quality, person-centred services that make a real difference to people's lives.
As Deputy Manager, you will lead and support care teams to ensure services are delivered safely, effectively, and in line with agreed care plans, quality standards, policies, and procedures.
Working closely with the Registered Manager, you will play a key role in managing staff performance, service delivery, resources, and safeguarding responsibilities, whilst maintaining a strong focus on the wellbeing and independence of the people we support.
Main duties of the jobKey ResponsibilitiesYou will:
- Support the Registered Manager in the overall management and development of the Care Unit.
- Coordinate and organise care services for new and transferring individuals.
- Ensure care is delivered in accordance with policies, procedures, care plans, and service level agreements.
- Provide direct care for service users in emergency situations and in other situations where needed.
- Lead, supervise, and motivate care staff to achieve high standards of performance.
- Carry out performance appraisals and identify training and development needs.
- Support recruitment, selection, induction, and retention activities.
- Provide regular supervision and day-to-day guidance to staff.
- Plan and manage staffing rotas, including arranging appropriate cover.
- Authorise timesheets and support financial administration processes.
- Assist with budget monitoring and delegated financial responsibilities.
- Promote effective communication with service users, families, carers, colleagues, and partner agencies.
- Ensure staff comply with health and safety requirements and risk management procedures.
- Promote and uphold safeguarding practices at all times.

Job PurposeManage a Care team working a specific period of day or evening and as required, elements of other Care Teams working the same period or an overlapping period, ensuring outcomes meet service level agreements. Assist the Operations Manager with the overall management and development of a specific Care Unit.
Operational Management- Assist the Operations Manager in agreeing and organising services for new or transferring service users.
- Ensure staff are delivering services in accordance with Directorate, Business Unit policy and procedures, agreed quality standards, individual care plans, service provision plans and within SLA framework.
- Personally provide direct care for service users in emergency situations and in other situations where needed.
- Set and monitor targets and standards for staff via performance appraisal.
Resource Management- Identify staff development and training needs via performance appraisal.
- Provide regular professional supervision.
- Be involved in the Recruitment, Selection and Induction of Staff.
- Assist Operations Manager in ensuring development and training needs are met.
- Provide on the job supervision for members of a Care Team working for a specific period of the day or evening.
- Provide direction and advice on the care needs of individual service users.
- Plan and implement rotas for staff cover including relief cover.
- Authorise time sheets and other payments.
- Assist the Operations Manager in the effective management of the specified budget including taking responsibility for any specifically delegated items.
- Undertake specific financial administration tasks e.g. petty cash, assistance with service users finances.
Person SpecificationOccupational SkillsEssential- Management and supervision of a Care team working a specific period of the day or evening.
- Staff Management.
- Appreciation of the basic skills of performance management i.e. setting objectives and standards, performance appraisal.
- Identifying and meeting staff development and training needs.
- Recruitment, selection and induction of staff.
- Planning and organising service for new service users.
Desirable- Business planning.
- Budget Management and Financial Administration.
- Managing within Service Level Agreement framework.

QualificationsEssential- A level 3 qualification in Care, Promoting Independence.
Desirable- A final level professional qualification e.g. DipSW, CQSW, CSS, RGN, DipOT, NVQ4 or 5 equivalents.
- A management qualification NVQ 4 or equivalent e.g. CMS, DMS
ExperienceEssential- Working knowledge of current best practice in the social care of older people and adults in relation to Care Quality Commission requirements.
- Proven experience in social care or a related discipline.
Desirable- Working knowledge of current developments in the organisation and provision of social care for older people and adults.
- Working knowledge of current management best practice.
- Working knowledge of the legal framework relating to service delivery decisions in the social care of older people and adults
