Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (community)Closing date: 21 July 2026Job summaryA great opportunity has arisen for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our community team in Bury as a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist. We are looking to appoint an experienced, highly motivated and flexible Speech and Language Therapist to join our well-established General Community Adult Speech and Language Therapy team based in Bury. Benefits would include flexible working, training and development opportunities, working collaboratively with highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapists within the team and in neighbouring boroughs. Regular supervision and opportunities to connect with colleagues /share ideas and receive support will be incorporated into your working week. Continued Professional Development and innovation will be supported. The successful candidate will have experience working with communication and swallowing disorders. Post graduate Dysphagia experience /qualification is essential. The service is delivered in a variety of settings including patient's homes, care homes, day centres and clinic environments. Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be responsible for managing a clinical caseload and delivering assessment and rehabilitation for patients with dysphagia and/or communication impairments across the community settings.

Person SpecificationQualifications- Degree in Speech & Language Therapy or recognised equivalent qualification.
- Post-basic qualification/ specialist competencies in dysphagia (RCSLT Level C/Proficient)
- Evidence of completion of specialist short courses or other post-graduate training.
Desirable- Training / Experience of FEES
- Clinical Educator training
Professional RegistrationDesirableKnowledge training and experience- Post qualification experience working with adults with acquired communication/swallowing disorders
- Experience of working with patients with a wide range of acquired neurological conditions including CVA, Parkinson's, MS, MND, dementia, Huntingdon's disease including patients who are in the palliative phase of care.
- Experience of working collaboratively within a multi disciplinary team.
Desirable- Experience working in the NHS
- Participation in research and audit
- Membership of relevant specialist interest groups
- Understanding of the principles of clinical governance/audit.
- Skills in the interpretation of video-fluoroscopy
Skills and Abilities- Good understanding of computers and technology their applications and willingness to develop
- Ability to support mental capacity assessments and best interest decision making process.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven organisational skills including time management, effective delegation and prioritisation and the ability to complete a task.
- Able to travel between sites
