Job summary
To assume responsibility for the management of Hyper Acute Stroke Unit including the assessment of care needs, the implementation of evidence based programme of care in the absence of the Ward Manager.

• To supervise, support and educate junior members of the team.

• Ensure and maintain patient, staff and visitor safety
• Hold the site bleep responsibility
• Ensure team and patient safety-including safe guarding
• Contribute to ward assurance and audit
• Work with the wider MDT to ensure high standards of effective patient care
• Ensure safe staffing level, contribute to off duty

• Work with patient, their carer and visitors to ensure a positive patient experience
• Contribute to clinical supervision and appraisal

Qualifications
Essential

• First level live NMC Registered Nurse or Registered Mental Nurse
• PP126/127 or AC631 or D32/33 or A1 or equivalent
• Mentorship Qualification or relevant equivalent qualification (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period)

Desirable

• Leadership course
• Management course
• Diploma or degree in nursing
• Qualification in specialty

Experience and knowledge
Essential

• Previous post registration experience
• Experience of relevant speciality
• Experience of co-ordinating a team

Desirable

• Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
• Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods
